Our Story
For those who are new to DogGone Natural, I’d love to share the story of how it all began and the values that continue to guide everything we do.
My name is Kimberly Correnti, and my journey into holistic pet care began in 1998 because of one very special dog, my beloved Sassi.
Sassi developed a persistent skin condition that left her uncomfortable and constantly struggling. Like any devoted pet parent, I turned to the veterinarians and specialists I trusted, hoping they would have the answers. Instead, we found ourselves on a frustrating cycle of medications that would temporarily ease her symptoms, only for them to return again and again. Watching Sassi continue to struggle was heartbreaking, and deep down, I knew there had to be a better way.
I couldn’t accept simply managing Sassi’s symptoms. I wanted to understand why she was suffering and give her the opportunity to truly heal. My love for her led me down a path I never expected, one of learning, discovery, and hope. I devoted myself to studying nutrition, canine nutritional needs, homeopathic medicine, herbal medicine, and other holistic approaches to wellness. I was determined to find answers that would help her live a healthier, happier life.
As I continued my education and research, I spent countless hours researching ingredients, and evaluating products available in the pet market. The more I learned, the more I realized there was a tremendous need for a different kind of pet store.
I envisioned a place where pet parents could shop with confidence, knowing every product had been thoughtfully selected based on the quality of its ingredients and the role those ingredients play in supporting a pet’s health and well being. I wanted our shelves to reflect the care we put into evaluating every product we choose to carry. Just as importantly, I wanted every customer to be welcomed by knowledgeable, compassionate team members who would take the time to understand each pet’s unique needs before offering thoughtful guidance. My goal was to create genuine relationships built on trust, education, and personalized care. That vision ultimately led to the idea of creating DogGone Natural.
What began as a journey to help my beloved Sassi grew into a much greater purpose: serving an entire community of pets and the people who love them.
In 2007, my vision became a reality and DogGone Natural opened its doors in Ashburn, Virginia. At a time when local pet parents had few nearby options beyond grocery stores and large pet retailers, we set out to bring Ashburn a mom and pop pet store where customers are known by name and conversations about nutrition and holistic wellness are openly shared. A place built not just on products, but on relationships, trust, and a shared love for the animals we call family.
Sassi’s journey changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. She taught me that the foundation of health isn’t simply about responding to symptoms as they appear, but about taking the time to understand the whole body and how to nourish and support it. Through her, I discovered a new way of thinking about nutrition, medicine, supplements, and the remarkable ability of the body to thrive when given the right support.
Those lessons didn’t just change how I cared for Sassi - they changed the way I live my own life. They became the heart of DogGone Natural, and have guided every decision we’ve made for more than 18 years.
